Busia waterfall is a mixed development, incorporating a shopping mall, offices and an hotel and conference complex. The figure above is for the shopping mall. The mall adopts conventional construction technology in this part of Kenya where sheet metal is a common roofing material with plastered masonry and brick. This is creatively interpreted through a balance of masses and columns to create a unique yet appropriate architectural expression.
The roof design has been done to optimise on rain water harvesting. While large windows are open on the mall and the offices, they are creatively shaded to avoid overheating. The centre of the mall has an atrium which cools the building through natural ventilation and stack effect.
